What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I'm from a tiny town in the Midwest. People in small towns are a bit quirky and I say that in the most loving way. They have inspired my view of the world. I wanted to create a town with unusual people who are, above all, loving and supportive of each other. I hope all of my books convey that spirit.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
I do tend to make a bit of a Frankenstein character. Sometimes I think about someone I know or knew. What made them shine in the world? What were their struggles? From there, I will find a picture online of someone who looks entirely different but portrays the image I want. Then I go about getting to know this person. Besides the traits I based this fictional character on, what can I add to achieve the person who will best fit the storyline? I stopped forcing this step, because I realized that after the initial first few steps, the characters will speak to me if I let them.

Shocking Discovery

Aisley Lumber Township Herald

November 13, 1925

Yesterday morning as Mrs. Edith Pressbone and her young son, Daltrey, were walking their dog next toby our scenic falls, they happened upon a gruesome sight. There, before those tender eyes, were the remains of two women floating in the water. These were not mere vacationers to our lovely forest by the sea, but rather the matriarchs of our community.

After the administration of smelling salts by young Daltrey, Mrs. Pressbone found herself steady enough to make her way back to town and the comforting arms of her husband. He, along with local authorities were able to identify the half-clothed corpses of Faye Scheddy, also known as Faye Flanagan, and her sister, one Fiona Scheddy, née Flanagan.

Upon closer inspection, the unlucky crew discovered a pile of neatly folded underskirts and two pairs of black, sturdy boots on the rock above the falls. It was determined that the lost souls took their own lives sometime the previous night preceding. The constable removed himself to 811 Flanagan Lane, the home the widows shared with their combined five children. To his surprise, the entire residence was devoid of human life. The furniture was covered as if the family had planned an extended holiday.

Both women were last seen at the cannery last week, conversing with long-time employee Samuel Li about the upcoming employee clam chowder night. Authorities plan to contact neighboring communities to ascertain the location and well—being of the children.

Mmes. Scheddy and Scheddy were something of local legend, raising families and contributing to daily operations at Scheddy Salmon Cannery after the deaths of their husbands some eight years past. In addition, their influence can be seen in many local charitable organizations, including Flanagan Lane Hospital and Aisley Lumber Township City School. The sisters were Scottish immigrants, entering the country as young brides in 1908.

It has also been reported that sometime during the evening of November 12th, Scheddy Cannery inexplicably burned to the ground. It is unknown at this time if the two tragic events are somehow related. There have been no missing persons reported in relation to this event.
