A university research team and a television crew discover the forest has more dangers than wild animals when they find themselves caught in a battle between outlaw marijuana growers and a group searching for Hernando De Soto’s fabled lost treasure in an unexplored section of the Ouachita National Forest.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
The love of outdoors and adventures and a desire to bring the outdoors to people and hope to get them out and into it. There is much more to forests and the wild lands than people know so an adventure tale is one way to share and inspire.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
Characters are a mix of people I have known and television news stories I have done.

Esmerelda said, “So, I think I can decipher your map and overlay it with the maps and journals Arkansas sent the university, as well as Google Earth satellite photos and so forth.”
The two men looked at Esmerelda with confusion. Their eyes went between the laptop and the ancient map. They then looked back at Esmerelda with blank looks.
Exasperated, Esmerelda resumed explaining to the men, “I have what it takes to decode your map and find out exactly where the treasure is hidden. Fate, you two idiots. Think about it. What are the chances of Carlos finding this map at the same time Arkansas contracted with my university’s department for this cartography job? Carlos, discovering this map at this time was meant to happen. It is fate.”
The two men broke into wide, greedy, smiles. They turned to each other and gave one another a high-five hand slap.
Esmerelda said, “Don’t spend your treasure yet. It will take some time to analyze the map and pinpoint landmarks and such. If we go treasure hunting, we will need metal detectors, digging tools, supplies, et cetera. I hope you realize that this is out in the middle of bum fuck nowhere. There will be wild animals and maybe hillbillies, and God only knows what else.”
Samir said, “No pain, no gain!”
Carlos said, “I can get supplies to handle wild animals and hillbillies.”
Samir said, “I know where to get digging tools. Old man Witherspoon never locks his tool shed. He has the best garden in town so his tools must be good. He even has baby-sized tools for his grandkids to use. He should have everything we need to dig up Spanish treasure.”
Carlos said, “Great. You get the digging supplies and I’ll get protection supplies.” Samir said, “Sounds like a plan to me. The three of us will be rich and famous.” Esmerelda said, “I don’t care about fame. I do care about riches.”
