What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
Thinking about generations that have the same patterns over and over and they never seem to change. I wanted to write a mystery on changing generational curses and how they affect individuals that break the cycle.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
I thought of a family with three generations of women and how each woman is different mentally and focused on the main character and the people that are involved in her life daily.
Justin thought it would be a great idea to surprise Tori with a birthday trip to Hawaii after all the things that have happened over the last few months. Tori was super excited and calls her mom over to help her pack, she is the queen of packing for trips. Ever since she was a little girl her mom would take a trip at least once a month sometimes with her and a lot of times without her. While packing they call her grandmother since she hadn't talked to her in about two weeks.
"Hi, Grandma! Guess where I'm going?'
"Hi Suga bear, I don't know where you are going?"
"Justin is taking me to Hawaii for my birthday!"
Silence on the other end, while on Tori's end her mom is complaining about how Tori has packed her suitcase.
"Grandma are you there?" Tori asks concerned.
"Yes, Tori baby I'm here, now you and Justin aren't getting married or anything?" Tori's grandmother asks in a stern voice.
"Grandma why would you ask that? It is just a birthday trip."
"I just don't want you to send me to an early grave suga bear." Tori's grandmother is viciously smiling on the other end of the phone. Tori kind of taken back by her grandmothers' response abruptly ends the conversation. "Okay, grandma let me finish packing I will call you later, love you."
Ever since the phone call with her grandmother Tori still had an uneasy feeling in her stomach while heading to the airport with Justin.
"Babe I hope we have a good trip." Tori's voice shakes.
"Tori, what's wrong? Talk to me. It's me and you babe, we are going to have a blast it's your birthday trip."
"Yeah but so much has been happening lately I'm on edge."
They both get alerts on their phones from the airline about a delay. Tori starts twisting and turning in the passenger seat holding her stomach.
"See what I’m saying, now the weather in Hawaii is delaying our flight, Oh my God Justin."
"Calm down babe let's park the car and get in the airport and see what's going on." In a patient tone, Justin tells Tori.
Being the end of March and all the spring breakers are overcrowding the airport, there are long lines at every airline counter. Tori and Justin are finally at their airline counter and are told of the big storm in Hawaii and they could leave out tonight. They decide to just stay at the airport till the midnight flight. At 10 pm they both receive another text from the airline stating their midnight flight is canceled. Annoyed, cranky and tried Tori heads to the counter by the flight door for the midnight flight among ten other passengers. Justin tries to stop her so he can be the one to check on things.
"Tori you stay seated let me see what's going on, it is your birthday I need you to relax."
"Relax? Really? Babe, I need to get out of here I'm going nuts."
Justin was able to get them on the next flight at 6 am. Tori is emotional and on the verge of crying turns to Justin and says, "Why is stuff always happening to us?" All Justin could do was hold Tori, because in the back of his head he felt the same way. At 5 am they are ready to board the plane and with a day gone from their vacation time, they both try to smile and make the best of it. Walking toward them is Charmaine and a tall buff man. As they get closer Tori nudges Justin and gives him a puzzled look.
"Hey, Justin! Where you are going?" All chipper Charmaine stops right in front of Justin with her new beau in tow.
"Hello, Charmaine, Tori and I are headed to Hawaii for her birthday. What about you?" Slightly annoyed Tori smacks her lips, rolls her eyes and waves hi to Charmaine.
"My fiancé Paul is taking me to Hawaii, what are the odds we might be on the same flight." Eating a blueberry muffin and sipping her coffee, Justin keeps eyeing Charmaine’s colossal muffin. He hasn't eaten anything since yesterday afternoon as he refuses to eat airport food. Charmaine notices Justin starring at her food. Tori's eyes brightened up when she heard Charmaine say her fiancé. That statement made her feel more secure in her relationship with Justin knowing his deranged ex is occupied with a new love.
"Justin you look hungry you want the rest of this muffin?"
"Could I? We haven't eaten since yesterday and this is going to be a long flight. Tori do you want some?"
Tori eyes the muffin and turns her nose up. "No, thank you, babe, that's all you."
Finally boarding the fight and headed to Hawaii Justin starts to feel sick but thinks nothing of it. After getting settled in their luxury resort suite Justin ended up spending two days in the bathroom. Tori ordered room service and watched local tv stations airing old 80's tv shows.
"I swear she poisoned that muffin."
"No way it has to be something else like a virus. She didn't know she would see me, so how would she know to poison me."
"Whatever something is just not right with that girl."
Stretched out on the king bed with white bedding, only wearing a grey tank top and pink panties Tori exclaimed, "Something is trying to keep us from living our life together; can't you see that Justin. I swear it's your crazy ex, Charmaine!"
"Again, babe you are paranoid, let's get dressed and hit the beach for at least a day to say we did something now that I feel a little better."
Flashback to Tori's grandmother on her couch watching Tori play with her barbie dolls.
"Trust me it may happen for you Tori but until then you have me and your dolls. Pretend Suga bear, no need to rush look at me and your mom we are not married, and we are just fine."
"But I want a real husband grandma."
Wanting to dissipate all those thoughts in Tori's head about a husband her grandma brushes her comment off, "Hush now child grandma's stories are coming on go play."
