Motorcycle gangs, corrupt cops, kidnapped dogs, drug dealers, and the unique geography and history of California’s Sacramento River Delta area, where the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers flow into San Francisco Bay, are all woven into the plot of this suspenseful thriller.
Targeted Age Group:: Adult, Young adult
What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
Mainly several plot ideas I'd had for some time just waiting to use when the time was right and a fascination with the locale, which is close to where we live, used for the setting. The Delta area is a part of California not particularly well known to tourists and to people living in the southern half of the state, with a rich history and a very different feeling than the beaches of the Los Angeles and San Diego coastal areas, the urban sprawl of the San Francisco Bay area, or the Sierra mountains.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
This novel is part of a series, all written as standalone books but featuring recurring main characters. So the main characters were already available. New characters were created as needed to allow the plot to go forward, and suitable backstories were developed as necessary for each of these newbies.

Bruce parked his borrowed pickup truck immediately after turning off Main Street, California state route 12, on a short residential street that ended at the levee holding back the waters of the Sacramento River. The bridge that crossed the river was clearly visible to his right. The houses and lots were small, but well maintained, in this working-class neighborhood. Everybody seemed to be at work this morning; he was the only one visible on the street. He walked over to the address he was seeking, climbing the steps onto a wide porch that defined the front of the house.
He immediately found Buddy Cruikshank’s body lying on his side in a pool of blood underneath an old-fashioned sofa. The sofa was hanging from a gray metal rack suspended by chains at both of its ends on the porch. Dark red blood, still fresh and wet, contrasted starkly with the green-painted stucco of the walls and the light brown stain of the wooden fence surrounding the porch.
Buddy hadn’t changed much since they’d served together in the Middle East wars. He looked older and somewhat dissipated, but it had been a long time since Bruce had seen him. The victim was fully dressed in dirty jeans and a dirty T-shirt. Pre-mortem he’d needed a shave and more attention to his personal appearance to lose the impression of being seedy and more than a little desperate. Post-mortem Cruikshank had obviously been hit more than once on the back of his head with the proverbial blunt instrument.
Author Bio:
The author writes “tweener” mystery books (tough mystery stories that follow the cozy conventions of no graphic sex and no cussing), all published as e-books on Amazon Kindle, with most also published as paperback versions. They are fast moving and designed to entertain the reader. Several of the books introduce the readers to Latin America, a region where he has lived and worked that is a long way from home for most English speakers. Jerry selects the most interesting places that he has lived in or visited for Roger and Suzanne to solve miscellaneous murders. Jerry and his wife Elaine (who edits all of the books) breed, show, and hunt test prize-winning German shorthaired pointer dogs.
